The heart of the Advent season is the Christmas market on the market square in Greifswald. Festively decorated wooden stalls and sparkling fir lights fit into the medieval brick ensemble of the historic old town. Between the scent of roasted almonds and fir green, visitors can browse for Christmas gifts and end the evening with a cup of mulled wine. The Christmas market will take place this year with special consideration of the rules of distance and hygiene.

Arrival of Santa Claus in the Museum Harbour
According to good old custom, Santa Claus reaches the Hanseatic city of Greifswald on the first Advent (December 03.12rd at 15 p.m.) on a sailing ship. When he arrives at the museum harbor, he is greeted by trumpets and a shower of stars and distributes all sorts of goodies from his large jute sack. He then moves with his entourage in a carriage up to the market, where the Christmas lights are lit and the Christmas market is ceremoniously opened.

For the first time this year there is one lively Advent calendar in Greifswald city center. Made possible by a variety of institutions, visitors can visit from December 01st to December 24.12th. Always experience Christmas, cultural contributions at 16:30 p.m. The only exceptions are December 06th and 23.12rd, when the calendar opens at 17:00 p.m. During the approximately 30 minutes each, there are readings and singing as well as guided tours on Christmas traditions and customs.
