The smell of freshly baked bread is in the air, colorful pottery shines in the sun and robed squires, knights and noblewomen roam between the brick monastery walls. Every year in June, the Eldena monastery market attracts locals and visitors to the place where more than 800 years ago Cistercian monastery Hilda Founded. Between the walls of the monastery ruins, which became a symbol of Romanticism through the pictures by Caspar David Friedrich, regional producers present traditional handicrafts and local products: local vegetables, small wooden furniture, book and paper art, pottery, soap, candles and much more. Medieval music, jousting and all sorts of arts and crafts take visitors to the monastery market back in time.
