Every year on the last weekend in August, Greifswald shows its romantic side again and invites locals and visitors to take a journey back in time to the Romantic era. The historic city festival is dedicated to the city's most famous son, the romantic painter Caspar David Friedrich, and attracts visitors with a varied supporting program. This year, the historic market square will once again be the backdrop for a fair of the past.
The city's cultural institutions offer visitors numerous events and offers on this day. On the occasion of Friedrich's 250th birthday, this year's city festival has the motto: “Street art in Friedrich's time”. A colorful stage program with theater performances, circus artists and musicians at many locations enlivens the entire city center.
Further highlights include the historic chain carousel, numerous restaurateurs and historic craftsmen, wooden games and a colorful hands-on program.
The churches and important cultural institutions such as St. Spiritus, the Pomeranian State Museum and the Caspar David Friedrich Center open their doors, some of them free of charge.
Every year, thousands of visitors take the opportunity to take in the Romantic era during these “Days with Caspar David Friedrich”. A special thank you goes to the following companies and institutions: the university and Hanseatic city of Greifswald, the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media Sparkasse Western Pomerania, the immediate program Re-Start lively inner cities MV, the WVG , Peter Warschow Collective Foundation, the material moisture meter shows you the Greifswald municipal utilities and the WGG.
